September 11, 2004 Launch Report
The Southeast Alabama Rocketry Society held a launch on September 11th 2004 at Samson, AL. The weather conditions were mostly cloudy skies in the morning with some light rain mixed in. In the afternoon the sun came out for several hours. There were 27 flyers with 125 flights total. This makes this launch the biggest for SEARS 572 in terms of flyers and flights.
The Patriot's Day launch was observed with Red, White and Blue clothing and rockets. This launch was notable in having 24 high power flights. We had two vistors from HARA in Huntsvile, Max Gray and Lee Brock doing high power flights. Frank Jones brought his Miss Liberty which had a central K1275 redline with air start at 1.8 sec of two H 180s and air start at 2.8 sec of two H 238s. I believe this to be the most complex high power rocket flown at a SEARS launch.
Likewise, there were several Level 1 and Level 2 Certification Attempts. The following certs were attained:
John Hansel NAR Level 2 with a 1/2 Scale Patriot on a AMW K650
Chris Short TRA Level 2 with Loc Precision EZI 65 on a AMW J370 Green Gorilla
Greg Lane NAR Level 2 with a BSD Thor on a J350
Jasmine Bean TRA Level 1 with a Loc Precision Caliber ISP named KISS on a H180M
Tim McQueen NAR Level 1 with a Public Enemy Patriot 3in on a H123M
John Worley recertified TRA Level 1 and Level 2 on his "Support Our Troops" scratch rocket with an I211 and a J350
CONGRATS To ALL!
We were happy to see Christa Harris and the Pace High Students in attendance preparing for the Team America Rocketry Challenge. They have offered to sell concessions at the field and retrieving rockets for a donation! Their team will need funds for rocket materials and a trip to the finals.
Thanks for the high participation of flyers and spectators. Hope to see all at our next launch October 9th at Samson AL
