The SouthEast Alabama Rocketry Society (SEARS) is a National Association of Rocketry Section  serving Southeast Alabama, Northwest Florida and Southwest Georgia. We are also associated with Tripoli Rocketry Association Prefect 38. See Introducing SEARS. Our website is www.sears572.com.

The last regular SEARS launch was October 6th. The event was Odd Roc Day.  We enjoyed Cliff Oliver’s Spooky Rocket

The highlight of the day was a mass launch of about twenty Estes Snitch rockets.  We called it the Snitch Mass Invasion. See the video.

We also had a launch of John Hansel’s 10 inch diameter Nike Smoke.

It was the first M class Hybrid at SEARS. Unfortunately the Contrail hybrid did not give M performance as the flight only reached 600 feet. We did get some neat video as the massive rocket left the launch tower.

The first Tripoli Research Launch at SEARS was held on the afternoon of October 21st. Kendall Brent brought five research motors; four to fly and one for a hole in the ground static test.  Tripoli allows their Level 2 and above members to build and fly research motors.  Here is a picture of a 3 inch sugar motor in a static burn.

Read the rest of the details here.

SEARS supported the October 27th 2007 Webelos Rocket Rallynear Elberta, AL. Thirty eight Webelos Scouts flew their Quest Skyhawk rockets. They did two individual launches and about twenty participated in a mass launch.  Sears provided some demo launches for the event.

The 2008 Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) is underway. There is still time to form teams. Registration ends November 30th 2007.  I encourage you to make teachers, students, Scout troops, 4H groups, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and the like aware of TARC. The contest is open to 7th to 12th Graders.  Invite anyone interested to the November 3rd launch.

The next SEARS Launch is November 3rd 2007 in Samson, AL. The event will be Scratch Rocket Day. Fly any rocket that is built from parts instead of a kit for this event. Use the green flight cards for event flights. A green flight card will be randomly chosen and the flier will get a pick from the prize pool.

Get directions to the launch here. We setup at 8:30 AM and launch from 9 AM to 4 PM. You can find more launch details here. Come to watch or better yet, bring some rockets to fly. If you are a beginner we will help you get started. The whole family is welcome.
