SEARS August 5th 2006 Launch Report

SEARS 572 held its August Club launch on 8/5/06. The weather was hot, with highs in the mid 90s and sticky humidity. Shade and water were at a premium throughout the day. The winds were very calm in the morning. They picked up a little in the afternoon, but were mild all day.

The Special Event was Clusters. This might be the most popular event that SEARS has had. There were 28 cluster flights, with a total of 85 motors used. Not all of the motors were burned during those attempts, but they were counted anyway. Greg Lane won the prize drawing from the pool of cluster flights.

The launch of the day was John Hansel’s Nike Smoke on an M1900. The ejection was a little early, but the rocket recovered OK.

The video can be seen here.

Greg Lane and Kendall Brent made their attempts at the billiard ball duration. Kendall is in the lead with a time of 81 seconds. The competition will continue next month.

Several members started their NARTREK Bronze Certification. Marty Wiggins completed the 4 requirements. Randy Wiggins and Cliff Oliver are 1 requirement away from Bronze level. Details can be seen at

A group photo was taken in the afternoon. It is great to see how the club has grown.

There were a total of 15 fliers and 115 flights.
In addition to the cluster flights, there were several two stage flights and a three stage flight.

Overall it was a great day. Lots of fun was to be had and lots of water was consumed.
