June Launch Postponed for Weather!

Due to the not very good weather report for the weekend and now it looks like we will have an active tropical storm in the Gulf this weekend, we are pushing back the launch that was planned for 6 and 7 June to try it again on 13 and 14 June.

May 2, 2020 SEARS Launch On Hold!

CDC guidance is being eased back in many states, and both NAR and Tripoli are beginning to lift restrictions. We are having conversations about how best to keep our club members safe while still holding a launch in the month of May, but in the meantime the originally scheduled May 2, 2020 launch is cancelled, with a later date to be announced, along with new safety guidelines for club launches.

April 4th-5th Launch Date Canceled

Due to CDC guidelines and statements set forth by both NAR and Tripoli, we will not be holding a launch as planned on the weekend of April 4, 2020.

Next SEARS Launch is March 7, 2020!

The next SEARS launch is scheduled for March 7, 2020! Due to issues with the weather and the launch site conditions, this will be the first club launch of 2020 so we hope to see plenty of flights ready to go!

Observers, beginners, youth, scouts, and families are all invited to attend. Bring the rockets, and the club will supply the launch equipment. Setup will begin at 8:30 am CST and the launch will kick off at 9:00 am CST. The day will wrap up at 5:00 pm CST. There is a range fee of $10 per carload of flyers. Be sure to bring a sack lunch, sunscreen, and water. Feel free to bring chairs and a tent/umbrella.

Here are directions to Launch Site from the intersection of AL 52 and AL 87 in downtown Samson, AL. Go west on AL 52 9/10 miles and turn right onto County 17, Go 8/10 miles on County 17; (with a cemetery on the right), turn left onto a wide graded dirt road. You will come to a short paved section and at 4/10 miles onto this road turn left at the SEARS rocket sign. Continue on one lane dirt road past the sod farm offices into the middle of the field. Stay on the road and observe the signs.

February Launch Canceled

Due to the severe weather coming through the Southeast this week, we will not be having a February launch. The next scheduled launch will be March 7th, 2020. Stay tuned for more updates.

February 2 Launch is a NO GO!

NOTICE: We are cancelling the launch for February 1st and February 2nd due to field conditions. The field is only partially accessible by 4×4 vehicles today. We will tentatively hold next weekend, February 8-9 as a possibility, but more rain is expected at the launch site next week, so stay tuned for more information.

Apologies for the late post, but the February launch had been postponed to Sunday, February W due to field conditions. Stay tuned for updates about field conditions on Feb 2. We will be keeping the next weekend, Feb 8 as a backup date if the field conditions do not improve by Feb 2.

January 4 2020 Launch CANCELLED!!!!

Due to road conditions at the launch site, we are cancelling the launch today. The roads are impassable due to the heavy rains this week. We do not have a replacement launch scheduled for January at this time. We will resume our regular launch schedule on February 1, 2020.

Next SEARS launch is January 4, 2020! This will be the first launch of a new decade and we hope to see lots of rockets fly this weekend! It may be chilly on Saturday, so dress accordingly.

Observers, beginners, youth, scouts, families all are welcome to attend. Bring rockets if you have them. SEARS provides all launch equipment. Always recheck this site for the latest updates before departing for the field.

 Equipment setup is at 8:30. Launching of rockets begins at 9:00 and continues until 5:00. If you get there by 10:00 to 10:30, you will see most of the action. A port-a-potty is provided. There is a $10 range fee per carload of flyers. Bring a sack lunch, sunscreen, and water.
