Phoenix Missile Works Founders Day Launch

Alabama’s Phoenix Missile Works club will be celebrating their second annual Founder’s Day this January 19th and 20th just east of Winterboro, Alabama, about 20 miles south of Interstate 20 and 10 miles south of the infamous city of Talledega.

Don’t Miss the January 5th SEARS Launch

Our next launch is January 5th 2008 in Samson, AL. The event is Maiden Flight Day. Use a green flight card for any first flight of a rocket and you will have a chance to draw from the prize pool. So this is a chance to get out the exacto and glue and show us something new. In particular, John Hansel will fly the Hewes Space Special for the first time. The Panama City Artist who painted the craft will be there to witness the flight.

Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) is Underway

We have prepared a the following pages TARC 2008 ,  Taking on the TARC 2008 Challenge and Getting a Good Start on TARC. for interested teachers, leaders and students. Jack Kale is mentoring a Midland City, AL Civil Air Patrol (CAP) group for TARC. I encourage all SEARS members to use your contacts with teachers, students, and youth groups including scouts and 4-H to see if more teams can be formed before the November 30th deadline. Enjoy the SEARS Magazine.  There is a link on the right sidebar of the SEARS home page. 

I encourage SEARS Members to share your rocket tips, equipment reviews, or rocket projects here.  You can also build a home page. Just request a user name from me via email and give it a try.  Of course we will gladly consider articles from non-members.

Don’t miss the October 6th Launch

The next SEARS Launch is October 6th 2007 in Samson, AL. We expect cooler weather!

Event #1 Odd Roc Day. Odd Roc is a slang term for a strange-looking rocket. Odd Rocs are often made in the shape of non-rocketry-related items. Fly any Odd Roc on a green flight card and you will be entered to pick a prize from the prize pool.  This event will end at 3PM.

Event #2 Snitch Invasion. We will have a mass launch of up to 24 Snitch Rockets at 1 PM. (They are odd enough). So bring your Snitch. I will have a few Snitches for sale at $5 each. If you buy a Snitch from Greg, Your $5 will go to the TARC Fund.

The SEARS Sept 8th Launch in Samson is a GO

The no burn alert for Geneva County is lifted. So the SEARS Samson launch can go ahead. Thanks to John Hansel and Marty Wiggins for checking into this.

The event for Sept 8th will be combined Cluster and Drag Race Day. Fly a cluster or drag race a friend (use a green flight card) and be entered to pick a prize from the prize pool. The event ends at 3PM. Equipment setup is at 8:30 and waiver opens at 9:00.
